10th Anniversary
The year 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of Batteries, a peer-reviewed open access journal on battery technology and materials published monthly online by MDPI. With a current Impact Factor of 4.8 and a CiteScore of 6.6, the journal is indexed within Scopus, SCIE (Web of Science), Inspec, Ei Compendex, CAPlus/SciFinder, and other databases. The journal has published more than 1796 papers from more than 7057 authors. More than 2612 reviewers have reviewed the journal at least once. We equally value the contributions made by our editors, authors, and reviewers.
In honor of the journal’s 10th anniversary, we are reflecting on our past accomplishments and embarking on an exciting new chapter. We invite you to join us in celebrating this milestone for our journal and to explore the content we have prepared for you below.
10th Anniversary
Journal History

The inaugural issue was released. Batteries was published as a quarterly journal.
Prof. Dr. Andreas Jossen was appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of Batteries.
Batteries was indexed in Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI)—Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics).

Batteries received its first CiteScore (2019) of 4.8.
Batteries was indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)—Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics).
Batteries announced the first edition of the Best Paper Award.

Batteries received its first Impact Factor (5.938).
Batteries adopted a monthly publication schedule.
Batteries established the following sections:
Battery Materials and Interfaces: Anode, Cathode, Separators and Electrolytes or Others
Battery Mechanisms and Fundamental Electrochemistry Aspects
Battery Processing, Manufacturing and Recycling
Battery Modelling, Simulation, Management and Application
Battery Performance, Ageing, Reliability and Safety.
Batteries announced the first edition of the Young Investigator Award.
Batteries announced the first edition of the Travel Award.
Batteries announced the first edition of the Outstanding Reviewer Award.
Batteries was indexed in Ei Compendex.

Batteries received its 2023 Impact Factor (4.6).
Batteries received its 2023 CiteScore (4.0).

Prof. Dr. Karim Zaghib was appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of Batteries.

We are pleased to announce that Batteries received an increased CiteScore of 6.6 in June 2025, ranking Q1 in the “Electrical and Electronic Engineering” category.
2023 Batteries Best Paper Award—Winners Announced
We are pleased to announce the winners of the Batteries 2023 Best Paper Award. All papers published from 1 January to 31 December 2023, in Batteries (ISSN: 2313-0105) were considered for the award. After a thorough evaluation by the Award Committee of the Editorial Board, based on the originality and significance of the papers, citations, and downloads, five winners were selected.
