Cover Story: Complex multi-functional AlSi10Mg parts are increasingly being fabricated using the laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) additive manufacturing technique. In L-PBF, the powder characteristics and printing parameters, such as laser power, scan speed, layer thickness, build orientation, and hatch spacing, affect the mechanical properties of a component, such as fatigue. After printing, suitable post-process treatments need to be adopted to improve fatigue properties. This work establishes the linkages among all the critical elements of the printing and post-processing methods and provides an avenue to improve fatigue properties. View this paper
