Cover Story: Trace compounds in biogas can affect the integrity of the equipment, pipelines and engines they come into contact with and their presence in the gas may pose health, safety and environmental risks. Understanding the composition of gases is vital to the correct functioning of gas infrastructure, appliances and vehicles. In this study, we examined how volatile organic compound content in biogas varies depending on the feedstock and evaluated the efficiency of different upgrade processes in removing VOCs using primarily data collected in Swedish biogas plants. The data have multiple potential uses, including predicting the VOCs likely to be found in biogas and biomethane for a given feedstock and upgrade technique. Additionally, these data can also be used to assess the plausibility of the proposed limit values in regulatory standards. View this paper
