Cover Story: The world banana production has grown in the last few years, reaching 116.78 million tonnes of production annually. However, this growth is followed by an increase in the number of residues generated during the harvesting process, with the pseudostem as the main residue. The suitable management of these residues, despite reducing the environmental impacts, will also contribute to maximizing its payback, generating a new income for the banana producers, and resulting in overall favorable outcomes for the environment and the economy. The goal of this work is the optimization of cellulose extraction from banana plant pseudostem for the development of polymeric structures in the form of films or gels. View this paper
