Cover Story: In this work, we initiate an effort to unify the vast landscape of grid-based numerical methods to solve challenging multiphysics problems. The goal is to make high-performance simulation more accessible to engineers and scientists who are familiar with the relevant physics, but not necessarily with the intricate numerics. For this, we establish a common taxonomy for the most widely used methods. We also establish a robust and reproducible decision metric on which schemes to employ, given a few well-defined inputs. We show that implementing our method can potentially yield large computational speedups using some relevant examples. View this paper
