Cover Story: Pyrolyzing electrospun fibers produced from a mixture of poly(acrylonitrile), metal salt, and polymer-derived ceramic (PDC) precursors lead to the in situ formation of metal silicate nanoparticles on carbon fiber surfaces. The PDC (SiCN) generated in the pyrolysis increases carbon inter-plane distance, facilitating the diffusion of metal ions/atoms from the inside to the surface of fibers. View this paper
