Cover Story: Chitosan-based nanocomposites have emerged as a transformative class of functional materials for electrochemical sensing applications. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the influence of key molecular parameters, including the degree of deacetylation and molecular weight, on composite performance. Through the evaluation of advanced hybrid architectures incorporating metallic nanoparticles, carbon-based nanomaterials, MXenes, and molecularly imprinted polymers, the study elucidates critical mechanisms such as hydrogen bonding, metal chelation, and conductive network formation. Furthermore, it proposes standardized performance criteria encompassing limits of detection, stability, and selectivity, thereby offering a strategic framework for the development of next-generation biosensors for environmental monitoring, biomedical diagnostics, and food safety applications. View this paper
