Cover Story: Chaperones promote thermotolerance, morphological transitions, tolerance to antifungal drugs, and, ultimately, virulence in the fungal pathogens of humans. Although most reports on chaperones in human fungal pathogens focus on the contributions of a single protein, it is becoming clear that chaperones work together to fulfil specific roles and overcome environmental stresses. In this review, we describe known contributions of chaperones to fungal pathogenesis, the interactions between chaperones, and the possibility of exploiting these proteins as druggable targets.
