Cover Story: Dysphagia poses a huge health issue in our aging population, impacting patients psychologically and leading to aspiration, malnutrition, and airway obstruction. This systematic review evaluates the use of carbonated liquids to provide sensory enhancement in the rehabilitation of dysphagia. The review highlights the limited research in this field and heterogeneity of study methodology, although there is some promise. Further longitudinal, large-scale studies are required to further investigate the potential of carbonated water in dysphagia rehabilitation before it can be embedded into routine clinical practice.
