Cover Story: The recent worldwide inflation has brought attention to economic inequality. Thus, we wanted to examine at what point inflation became a significant issue, particularly economically, for people with low incomes, but also with respect to people’s feelings of unfairness and their urge act against it. Google trends allowed us to make a longitudinal study on inequality issues without having to follow a cohort over a long period of time. Moreover, we also investigated how to formulate meaningful terms related to inequality that Google trends (in the United Kingdom) would respond to. Our results showed that inequality and measures to reduce inequality were associated with parliament elections and, surprisingly, more with unemployment than with recessions and inflation.
