Cover Story: The integration of inductive charging in EVs has gained interest, especially for AUVs. In seawater, one of the effects that should be analyzed is the appearance of parasitic capacitances (Ce) between the power coils due to high conductivity. This component reduces efficiency. The main objective of this contribution is to find the optimal solution to avoid the effects of Ce during the coils design, thus simplifying the process and making it similar to an air-based solution. A comparative analysis of different topologies examines voltage, current, and efficiency variations. SS and LCC-S compensation systems are the base of this comparison. Experimental validation confirms that optimizing coil design can effectively neglect Ce effects, enhancing wireless charging efficiency for AUVs. View this paper
