Cover Story: Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) is increasingly important for the treatment of the ever-increasing number of patients with atrial fibrillation. Therefore, continuous improvement of the PVI workflow is urgently needed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of omitting pulmonary vein (PV) angiography before ablation on the safety and efficacy of PVI. For this purpose, patients who received PVI with PV angiography were compared with patients who received PVI without PV angiography. Apart from the fact that the fluoroscopy dose and the amount of contrast agent were significantly reduced when PV angiography was omitted, there were no differences between the groups. Thus, it can be useful to avoid PV angiography especially in young patients and those with chronic kidney disease. View this paper
