Cover Story: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) can present with or without peritumoral collateral vessels. Computed tomography (CT) allows in vivo quantification of the composition of the abdominal adipose compartments, visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT). In this study, we found a significant decrease in SAT of patients with peritumoral collateral vessels and clear RCC (ccRCC). The presence of peritumoral collateral vessels adjacent to ccRCC might be a subtle and novel diagnostic clue to kidney cancer cachexia. View this paper
