Cover Story: Navigating the delicate balance between “loading” and “unloading” is a critical challenge to cope with during the week for strength coaches in professional football. The present study delves into training load periodization, showcasing strategic adjustments aimed at enhancing neuromuscular readiness and overall athlete performance. Utilizing the Locomotor Efficiency Index derived from GPS data, in this research, various training regimes are methodically compared. The findings pinpoint optimal strategies that could boost game-day performance and reduce injury risk. The following study presents a new approach to the application of sports science within professional athletics, offering coaches and trainers a data-driven pathway to achieving peak athletic performance. The results reinforce the importance of finding the optimal balance between training and recovery. View this paper
