2023 December-1 - 410 articles

Cover Story: This study explores the effects of seasonal and diel variations in thermal stratification on a river’s phytoplankton community, offering valuable high-frequency data that are seldom seen in similar studies. The authors hypothesized varying environmental drivers and effects on phytoplankton at different time scales. Interestingly, seasonal shifts in phytoplankton exhibited limited responses to stratification indices, while summer cyanobacterial blooms showed a positive correlation with diel variations. This work, which is timely amid heightened global temperature concerns, contributes to predicting short/long-term consequences in freshwater ecosystems. View this paper
