Cover Story: This paper presents the use of machine learning (ML) methods for the prediction of indoor temperature as a step for optimal energy management in buildings. Based on a comparison of several ML algorithms and the conventional gray box model, the paper shows that the artificial neural network (ANN) and the extra trees regressor (ET) are the most performant in predicting indoor temperature. Consequently, they are recommended for buildings’ energy management.View this paper
