Cover Story: In general, the finite element method (FEM) is used to accurately analyze the electromagnetic field characteristic of a permanent magnet generator. Various and complex models, such as overhang and bolting structures, require a characteristic analysis using 3D FEM. However, it is difficult to always reflect the 3D FEM in the initial design, where the analysis time is proportional to the complex design element. In this paper, in order to shorten the analysis time, a semi-3D characteristic analysis of the permanent magnet synchronous generator was performed by considering the overhang and bolting structures in the 2D FEM. The usability of the analysis method is evaluated in terms of the near agreement from results compared to performance. View this paper
