Cover Story: Western diets and modern lifestyle have led to a significant reduction of gut microbial diversity, which is linked to many non-communicable diseases (NCDs) including cancer. This paper reviews the effects of some of the most popular "cancer-specific" diets on microbiota composition and their potential impact on cancer prevention and treatment. Besides a discussion of short-chain fatty acids, the focus is on Mediterranean, low-carb, ketogenic, as well as Paleolithic diets. View Paper here.
