Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the organising committee, we are pleased to welcome you to the 14th European Conference on Superplastic Forming (EuroSPF 2021) on September 15–17, 2021, to be held in Cadiz, Spain (URL: https://eurospf2021.sciencesconf.org). Since 2001, the EuroSPF conference has created a unique meeting place in Europe for professionals and academics in the field of superplastic forming and superplasticity, giving participants the opportunity to demonstrate their current work and promoting future collaborations. EuroSPF has been annually organised by different universities and institutions in France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Liechtenstein, and Italy. The conference is focused on all aspects related to the superplasticity of materials and to superplastic forming, such as material science, process simulation, press design, die optimisation, part manufacturing, innovative low-cost processes modelling, tool design, lubrication, industrial applications of SPF, and similar topics. This edition is the first ever that is open to contributors worldwide. Additionally, due to the ongoing pandemic a new conference model where live and online presentations will be held simultaneously is offered to the participants. With all this, EuroSPF2021 acquires an even more global character. We invite you to participate in this conference by submitting a paper reflecting your current research to this Topic.

The flow behavior of Ti-6Al-4V alloy during the air-cooling process after superplastic forming (SPF) has been discussed. In high-temperature constant strain rate tensile tests, the selected temperatures were 930, 900, 800, 700, and 600 °C, and the initial strain rates were 10−2, 10−3, and 10−4/s. The optimized deformation temperatures were 800~900 °C and the strain rates were 10−4~10−3/s. Then, the evolutions of activation energy and deformation strain are also discussed, and the effects of dislocation density and deformation activation energy on flow behavior were consistent. In addition, unstable flow is mainly concentrated in the low-temperature and high strain-rate regions, and this is mainly caused by dynamic recrystallization (DRX). After the SPF process, the possibility of material damage gradually increases during the air-cooling process. Full article

The poor thermoplastic formability of reactive Zr-based bulk metallic glass becomes the main limiting factor for replacing the noble-metal-based and Be-rich bulk metallic glasses in nanostructure fabrication. In our work, a (Zr50.7Cu28Ni9Al12.3)98.5Y1.5 bulk metallic glass with good thermoplastic formability has been developed by alloying, where Y addition enlarges the processing window and decreases the viscous resistance of supercooled liquid caused by the high free volume density. The prepared Zr-Cu-Ni-Al-Y bulk metallic glass nanostructure retains the amorphous characteristic and generates the complex oxidization products in the surface layer. The enhanced hydrophilicity of the as-embossed surface follows a Wenzel-impregnating wetting regime, and it can be attributed to the large roughness coefficient induced by the capillary effect. This study provides a low-cost and environmentally friendly bulk metallic glass system to manufacture the nanostructure with a broad prospect in the field of electrocatalysis. Full article

An investigation of flow behavior and the deformation mechanism for Ti-6Al-4V alloy during the superplastic deformation process is presented in this paper. Constant strain rate tensile tests were performed at 890–950 °C and strain rates of 10−2, 10−3, and 10−4/s. Then, surface observation by Optical Microscope (OM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Electron Back-scattered Diffraction (EBSD) was applied to obtain the microstructure mechanism. With pole figure maps (PF) for α-phase, obvious texture gradually changed in the main deformation direction. For the titanium alloy, the evolution of texture in deformed samples was attributed to grain rotation (GR). Significant grain rearrangement occurred between grains after deformation. A complete grain rotation accommodated grain boundary sliding (GBS) deformation mechanism is proposed, which can explain texture evolution without grain deformation. Full article
