Topic Information
Dear Colleagues,
With the acceleration of global climate change, urbanization, and energy transition, the building sector is facing increasing pressure to reduce carbon emissions while ensuring comfortable, healthy, and resilient indoor and outdoor environments. This Topic, entitled “Advances in Building Energy and Environment”, aims to provide an interdisciplinary platform for presenting recent progress in theories, methods, technologies, materials, and applications related to building energy performance and environmental quality.
We invite researchers and practitioners to submit original research articles and reviews addressing building energy modeling and simulation, energy-efficient HVAC systems, renewable energy integration, energy storage, building envelope technologies, passive design strategies, thermal comfort, indoor air quality, occupant behavior, smart sensing, intelligent control, digital twins, demand response, and urban microclimate regulation. Particular attention will be given to studies that integrate energy optimization with environmental performance, especially those using data-driven prediction, multi-objective optimization, advanced materials, artificial intelligence, and field validation under different building types and climatic conditions. Contributions linking scientific innovation with engineering practice, policy implications, and lifecycle assessment are also highly encouraged. We welcome forward-looking and practical contributions that can support low-carbon operation, improve environmental comfort, enhance system flexibility, and promote sustainable, intelligent, and human-centered built environments.
