Innovative Approaches to Addressing Motivation and Psychosocial Factors in Physical Education
Topic Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Topic aims to present current scientific evidence on the relationship between motivational, cognitive, emotional and pedagogical processes in physical education and sport settings. It will address both formal educational stages and extracurricular sport contexts, with special emphasis on the promotion of sustainable educational and sport environments that support lifelong engagement in physical activity, health promotion and psychosocial well-being. Particular attention will be paid to how pedagogical approaches and motivational climates influence academic achievement, cognitive functioning, emotional development, social relationships and behavioral adherence to active and healthy lifestyles.
Furthermore, contributions exploring the role of physical education and sport in fostering social sustainability, inclusion, community well-being and equitable access to active participation are particularly relevant. Special interest will be given to research analyses examining the interaction between motivation, cognition, intelligence-related processes and teaching methodologies across different age groups and educational contexts. Special interest will be given to research examining how innovative pedagogical models and psychologically supportive learning environments can enhance intellectual engagement, emotional regulation, critical thinking and sustained participation in physical activity and sport.
This topic welcomes cross-sectional and longitudinal studies, experimental and intervention-based research, systematic reviews and meta-analyses examining the interaction between motivation, cognition, intelligence-related processes and teaching methodologies. Studies focused on the validation of assessment tools related to motivational, emotional, cognitive and pedagogical constructs in physical education and sport settings are also encouraged.
