MDPI Acquires Swiss Journals in Healthcare Portfolio Expansion
We are pleased to announce MDPI has acquired three Swiss journals from former publisher Editores Medicorum Helveticorum (EMH). The journals are: Swiss Archives of Neurology, Psychiatry and Psychotherapy (SANPP), Primary and Hospital Care (PHC), and Cardiovascular Medicine.
MDPI has just released its first issue of SANPP (Volume 176, Issue 1) and PHC (Volume 25, Issue 1), following the successful relaunch of Cardiovascular Medicine late last year. All three journals will be free to read, share, and download via MDPI’s OA platform.
Swiss Archives of Neurology, Psychiatry and Psychotherapy (SANPP)
Founded in 1917, SANPP has over a century of experience in facilitating clinical and scientific exchange in Switzerland and beyond. The journal is notable for establishing an international forum that connects innovative research, critical reflection, and interdisciplinary dialogue across neurology, psychiatry, and psychotherapy.
While the journal is firmly rooted in Switzerland, it quickly gained international recognition and has since published the work of several renowned scholars, including Nobel Prize winners Dr. Walter Rudolf Hess and Dr. Rita Levi-Montalcini.
Prof. Dr. Paul G. Unschuld, University of Geneva, editor-in-chief of SANPP, said: "As a Swiss-born publisher, MDPI is a natural fit for SANPP. Our shared focus on global accessibility, and our deep respect for academic medicine and discourse, bode well for our long-term collaboration. Together, we aim to promote discussions and integrative clinical care in neurology, psychiatry, and psychotherapy by raising the profile of this century-old journal and making its content more accessible."
Primary and Hospital Care (PHC)
MDPI has also taken ownership of PHC. This journal supports primary and hospital healthcare providers by offering a platform for exchange across clinical practice, education, and health service perspectives. PHC is currently in negotiations with a new editor-in-chief (EiC) to lead its development.
Dr. Carla Aloè, head of societies and acquisitions at MDPI, said: "Primary and Hospital Care has made a valuable addition to MDPI’s wider Healthcare portfolio, joining existing journals like Hospitals and Trends in Public Health. Our ambition is to provide a forum where scientific rigor and practical relevance meet, strengthening global healthcare outcomes and Swiss research through our shared commitment to Open Science principles."
Cardiovascular Medicine
Cardiovascular Medicine transferred to MDPI late last year, beginning with Volume 28, Issue 1. The journal has since welcomed a new editorial board of highly cited Swiss and international experts, covering all areas of contemporary cardiovascular medicine. The journal has also initiated new collaborations with the Swiss Society of Perfusion and Swiss Society of Cardiac Surgery, reflecting its interdisciplinary approach and continued relevance for modern cardiovascular care.
Dr. Peter Matt, editor-in-chief of Cardiovascular Medicine, said: "Cardiovascular Medicine has a longstanding tradition in the Swiss and international cardiology community. Our first wave of manuscript submissions benefited greatly from the dedication and expertise of our outstanding reviewers. I look forward to our continued growth and development under MDPI’s care, drawing on their in-depth knowledge of Open Access and the global publishing landscape."
Supporting Swiss Researchers
Since 2020, MDPI has published more than 17,700 articles affiliated with Swiss research institutions. A total of 15,199 and 15,480 of these publications are indexed in Web of Science and Scopus, respectively. MDPI also collaborates with 642 editorial board members in Switzerland, including 14 EiCs and 31 section EiCs.
Dr. Carla Aloè, added: "The addition of these new titles has provided a welcome opportunity to expand our collaboration with the academic community, particularly in Switzerland. We extend a sincere welcome to the editorial board members, authors, and reviewers who have chosen to work with us on this exciting new chapter."
