Mapping Industrial Symbiosis Development in Support of Industrial Innovation

This special issue belongs to the section “Sustainable Management“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Industrial symbiosis is a sustainability-driven approach to industrial innovation. Both process and supply chain configuration can be improved and made more sustainable through firms’ cooperation and the creation of synergies between entities. On the other hand, issues due to recent supply chain and energy supply disruptions have increased demand for new cooperative strategies involving ICT and technological innovation, as well as proper organizational and regulatory schemes to support both the supply security and environmental and social progress.

This Special Issue aims at providing an overview of the latest IS developments, considering how IS triggers innovative technological solutions, supports the energy transition and contributes to securing material and energy supply. Topics of interest include:

  • Industrial symbiosis as a driver for the industrial green innovation;
  • Long-term sustainability assessment of industrial symbiosis approaches;
  • Resilience principles, strategies and indicators in the industrial symbiosis;
  • Assessing risks in the industrial symbiosis approach and building up strategies to manage them
  • Modelling industrial energy symbiosis, considering cyber security protocols to protect privacy issues for energy and materials exchange;
  • Policy and regulatory schemes enabling industrial symbiosis, supporting energy and materials supply security;
  • Modelling industrial symbiosis, including energy-related synergies and case studies.
