Perovskite Solar Cells: From Materials to Modules
This special issue belongs to the section "Photovoltaics".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Metal-halide perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have emerged as one of the most promising photovoltaic technologies due to their rapid efficiency improvements and low-cost solution processability. However, despite significant progress at the device level, challenges remain in translating high-performance laboratory-scale devices into stable, scalable, and commercially viable modules. Key bottlenecks include interfacial instability, environmental degradation, and limited understanding of structure–property relationships across different length scales.
This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive platform for recent advances in perovskite solar cells, spanning from fundamental materials design to module-level engineering. Particular emphasis will be placed on interface engineering strategies, including self-assembled monolayers (SAMs), surface passivation, and interfacial energy alignment, which play critical roles in improving device efficiency and long-term stability. In addition, the Special Issue will highlight progress in scalable fabrication techniques, such as blade coating, slot-die coating, and roll-to-roll processing, that enable the transition from small-area devices to large-area modules.
We also encourage contributions that explore the relationship between ink formulation, thin-film formation, and device performance, as well as studies on degradation mechanisms under thermal, mechanical, and environmental stress. Research on flexible and lightweight perovskite modules, tandem architectures, and integration with emerging energy systems is particularly welcome. This Special Issue seeks to bridge the gap between fundamental materials science and practical device engineering, offering insights into the design of robust, high-performance perovskite photovoltaic technologies for real-world applications.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Solar is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
