Precision Psychiatry and Advances in Patient Care: Innovations Transforming the Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental Disorders

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new Special Issue of Psychiatry International, titled "Precision Psychiatry and Advances in Patient Care: Innovations Transforming the Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental Disorders." This Issue invites contributions from our esteemed Editorial Board Members and leading scholars, focusing on developments that are reshaping psychiatric research and clinical care.

Psychiatry is undergoing a crucial transition towards precision approaches that integrate genetic, neurobiological, behavioural, and environmental data to support more accurate, timely, and individualised interventions. This Special Issue will centre on high-burden and complex mental disorders, including major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia–spectrum disorders, obsessive–compulsive spectrum disorders, and anxiety disorders.

A central focus will be on machine learning and computational psychiatry, which enable the integration of multimodal data—such as neuroimaging, genomics, and digital phenotyping—to identify predictive biomarkers and inform clinical decision-making. Electronic medical record (EMR) databases are also increasingly important, offering large-scale, real-world data for improving diagnostic precision and modelling treatment outcomes. Their integration with computational methods further enhances the potential for personalised care.

In parallel, this Issue will address ethical and implementation challenges, including data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the standardisation of analytic protocols. The goal is to provide a comprehensive overview of the opportunities and limitations of precision psychiatry in clinical practice.

We welcome high-quality original research articles and reviews. Accepted papers will be compiled into a printed volume and actively promoted. We look forward to your contributions to this initiative, which seeks to advance mental health care through innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
