Innovative Approaches in Biomass Conversion: Advances in Pyrolysis and Catalytic Processes
This special issue belongs to the section “Environmental and Green Processes“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
This Special Issue is dedicated to exploring innovative approaches to biomass conversion, with a particular focus on advances in pyrolysis and catalytic processes. As the urgency of developing sustainable energy solutions grows, biomass has emerged as a critical renewable resource, offering potential pathways for producing biofuels, chemicals, and other value-added products.
Key areas of interest include the following:
- Pyrolysis Technology: Recent innovations in reactor design, optimization of thermal processes, and characterization of pyrolysis products such as bio-oil, char, and syngas.
- Catalytic Processes: Development of novel catalysts (both homogeneous and heterogeneous) and their applications in enhancing reaction efficiency, selectivity, and product yield.
- Waste Valorization: Strategies for converting agricultural, industrial, and municipal waste into valuable resources through integrated biomass conversion processes.
- Biorefinery Concepts: Innovations in biorefinery designs that combine biomass conversion technologies to maximize resource recovery and minimize environmental footprint.
- Environmental Impact and Sustainability: Assessment of the life cycle impacts of biomass conversion technologies, including carbon footprint analysis and sustainability metrics.
We invite contributions that encompass both fundamental research and applied studies, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration among researchers, engineers, and industry professionals. By showcasing the latest advancements in biomass conversion, this Special Issue aims to inspire further exploration and development of effective strategies for sustainable biomass utilization, and contribute to the global transition toward renewable energy sources.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
