Advanced Manufacturing Processes for Emerging Energy Storage Technologies

This special issue belongs to the section “Energy Systems“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The transition to sustainable and low-carbon energy systems demands breakthrough developments in energy storage technologies. From lithium-ion and solid-state batteries to next-generation supercapacitors and redox flow batteries, the performance, scalability, and affordability of these devices depend not only on advanced materials but also on innovative manufacturing processes.

This Special Issue of Processes invites original research articles, reviews, and perspectives that highlight recent advances in manufacturing technologies for emerging energy storage systems. Emphasis will be placed on scalable, cost-effective, and eco-friendly processing methods that enable high-performance, durable, and safe energy storage solutions. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Novel fabrication techniques for electrodes, electrolytes, and cell architectures;
  • Additive manufacturing (3D/4D printing) and digital manufacturing for energy devices;
  • Process optimization and scale-up for battery and capacitor production;
  • Green and sustainable processing routes for energy storage materials;
  • Integration of AI, machine learning, and Industry 4.0 in energy device manufacturing;
  • In situ monitoring, modeling, and control of manufacturing processes;
  • Life-cycle assessment and process intensification for sustainable production

This Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive platform for researchers and practitioners to showcase innovations that bridge the gap between material design and real-world energy storage applications. Contributions that demonstrate interdisciplinary approaches, industrial relevance, or techno-economic analysis are especially encouraged.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
