Section Information

The Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases section adopts a One Health perspective, encompassing infections originating from human, animal, and environmental reservoirs. The section is dedicated to advancing the understanding of how infectious diseases develop and spread across diverse populations and settings. We welcome studies that elucidate real‑world infection patterns, investigate the drivers of disease emergence and transmission, or examine the interplay of environmental, ecological, and socio-behavioral factors in shaping infectious disease risk. Research that integrates epidemiological approaches with microbiology, molecular biology, genomics, ecological modelling, or public health practice is particularly encouraged in this section.

All contributions that enhance our ability to prevent, prepare for, and respond to infectious diseases, whether respiratory, gastrointestinal, sexually transmitted, or vector/animal-borne infections, are welcome.

We are especially interested in studies leveraging novel methodologies and emerging technologies, including but not limited to pathogen genomics, phylodynamics, digital surveillance, Artificial Intelligence applications in infectious disease modeling, and real-time outbreak analytics. By bridging traditional epidemiology with cutting-edge tools, the section aims to foster innovative approaches to predicting, detecting, and controlling infectious threats.

  • host–pathogen interaction at the population level
  • epidemiological aspects of emerging and re‑emerging infectious threats
  • zoonotic infections and One Health perspectives

  • outbreak investigations, transmission dynamics, and source attribution
  • surveillance systems and monitoring of pathogen trends
  • antimicrobial resistance in communities and healthcare settings
  • healthcare-associated and hospital‑acquired infections
  • epidemiological investigations of vaccine-preventable diseases and impact evaluation of immunization programs
  • studies that support prevention strategies and public-health decision‑making
