Dear Colleagues,
Since ancient times, natural products have been integral to human health and wellbeing. Archaeological and historical evidence indicate that humans have relied on natural substances and their derived molecules for therapeutic purposes for more than 60,000 years. Today, natural products—particularly secondary metabolites—and their derivatives remain among the most prolific and promising sources for discovering novel bioactive compounds and developing innovative drugs. Ongoing research about pharmacological, phytochemical profiling, and mechanistic understanding of natural products continues to yield relevant knowledge for the treatment and prevention of diverse human diseases.
This Special Issue aims to highlight recent advances and emerging trends in the phytochemistry and pharmacology of natural products, highlighting their roles in drug discovery, mechanism elucidation, and therapeutic innovation. We particularly encourage submissions that explore bioactivity-guided isolation, structure–activity relationships, molecular docking and in silico analyses, preclinical pharmacological evaluations of natural compounds. Studies that integrate modern analytical techniques, metabolomics, or biotechnological approaches to enhance the understanding or production of bioactive natural metabolites are also welcome.
As Guest Editor, I invite researchers from diverse fields—encompassing chemistry, biology, and pharmacology —to contribute original research articles, short communications, and comprehensive reviews that expand the frontiers of natural product research and its application in modern medicine.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
