Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Metal powder composites have emerged as a critical class of materials that combine the advantages of metallic matrices with tailored reinforcements, enabling enhanced mechanical, thermal, electrical, and functional properties. With the growing demand for high-performance materials in sectors such as the aerospace, biomedical, automotive, and energy industries, the development of novel powder-based fabrication methods and precise characterization techniques has become increasingly important.
This Special Issue thus aims to provide a platform for the latest research on the innovative processing, design, and evaluation of metal powder composites. Contributions that focus on advanced sintering strategies, additive manufacturing, mechanical alloying, spark plasma sintering, and other powder metallurgy-based methods are highly encouraged. In addition, we welcome studies that apply novel in situ or ex situ characterization techniques—such as electron microscopy, synchrotron X-ray, neutron diffraction, and 3D tomography—to better understand microstructure–property relationships in these materials.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Novel fabrication techniques for metal powder composites;
- Powder metallurgy and additive manufacturing;
- Mechanical alloying and sintering processes;
- Spark plasma sintering and rapid densification methods;
- Reinforcement selection and interface design;
- Advanced microstructural characterization;
- Mechanical and functional property evaluation;
- Multi-scale modeling and simulation;
- In situ observation of deformation or phase transformations;
- Applications in the aerospace, biomedical, energy, and other fields.
We invite you to submit your high-quality research to this Special Issue of Metals, titled “Innovative Fabrication and Characterization Techniques for Metal Powder Composites”—we look forward to your valuable contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Metals is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
