Catalytic Materials for Renewable Energy and Fuels

Dear Colleagues,

The design of catalytic materials and the advancement of renewable chemistry are critical for achieving sustainable fuels and chemicals, addressing some of the most pressing challenges in today's energy landscape. As the world shifts towards greener alternatives, optimizing catalysts for processes such as hydrogen production, CO₂ utilization and biomass conversion becomes increasingly important. Current research focuses on developing novel catalytic materials that exhibit high activity, selectivity and stability under operating conditions. However, significant hurdles remain, including the scalability of synthesized materials, their long-term performance and the reduction in production costs. Furthermore, integrating these catalytic processes into existing industrial frameworks poses practical challenges. Addressing these barriers requires a multidisciplinary approach, combining insights from chemistry, materials science and engineering, to innovate efficient catalytic systems that can facilitate the transition to a low-carbon economy. Ultimately, enhancing our understanding of catalytic mechanisms and improving material design will pave the way for more effective and sustainable solutions in energy and fuel production.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
