MicroRNA biomarkers in Aging Society

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The number of people over the age of 65 is increasing steadily around the world. The major causes of death in aged people are cardiovascular diseases, cancer, respiratory diseases, and metabolic diseases. The prevention and control of these diseases are important medical and social goals for keeping an aging society healthy.

MicroRNAs are posttranscriptional regulators of gene expression, and contribute to the development of various pathological processes. Since microRNAs are abundant and stable molecules in body fluids, such as plasma, serum, saliva, urine, stool and milk, and the expression profile specifically changes in response to the pathophysiology of each disease, microRNAs are expected to be useful as biomarkers. In this Special Issue, we will focus on relevant utilizations of microRNA biomarkers to prevention and control aging-related diseases.
