Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Journal of Clinical Medicine (JCM) is supporting the publication of a Special Issue on “Towards a New Paradigm: Opioid-Free and Opioid-Sparing Strategies in Modern Anesthesia”, for which I will serve as Guest Editor.

Nowadays, the global anesthesia community, being at the forefront of clinical innovation, is witnessing a pivotal shift in perioperative pain management. Growing concerns over opioid-related adverse effects, the risk of dependency, and the broader implications of the opioid crisis have fostered the exploration of alternative approaches in the management of perioperative pain. This Special Issue aims to highlight emerging research and explore the evolving paradigm of opioid-free and opioid-sparing approaches in modern anesthesia practice.

We invite original research articles, systematic reviews, and expert perspectives that address multimodal analgesia, regional anesthesia techniques, non-opioid pharmacologic agents, enhanced recovery protocols, and institutional pathways that support opioid-free and opioid-sparing strategies in anesthesia and perioperative care. Emphasis will be placed on the impact of these strategies on patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, safety, and healthcare resource utilization. Manuscripts dealing with the Implementation of these strategies in diverse surgical populations will be particularly welcome.

By gathering thought leaders and pioneering studies, this Special Issue seeks to redefine pain management standards and promote a safer, evidence-based approach to anesthesia in the 21st century. The aim is to facilitate knowledge exchange and guide clinicians toward safer, more effective, and sustainable pain management strategies.

I am very much looking forward to receiving your submissions.
