Treatment and Long-Term Outcome of Fracture

Dear Colleagues,

Fracture care remains an essential part of trauma and orthopedic practice that is constantly developing, but challenges persist in terms of the hindering of the optimization of treatment strategies and evidence for long-term outcomes. This Special Issue, “Treatment and Long-Term Outcome of Fracture”, aims to highlight recent advances and ongoing evidence deficiencies in fracture care across different populations and fracture patterns. Despite improvements in fracture repair methods, biomaterials, and rehabilitation protocols, variation in healing rates, complication risks, and recovery of function continue to pose clinical problems. Foremost among these are the identification of predictors of poor outcomes, enhancing personal treatment protocols, and improving post-fracture quality of life.

The scope of this Section stretches from clinical research to translational research and innovative diagnostics, intervention, and long-term monitoring. Topics such as fracture fixation methods, the biological enhancement of healing, rehabilitation, and outcome measures are included. Papers on geriatric fractures, high-energy trauma, fractures in children, and pathological fractures are especially encouraged.

We invite clinicians and researchers to provide original research and reviews that advance knowledge and close the divide between treatment and recovery. Together, contributions to this Special Issue will promote interdisciplinary cross-talk and evidence-based progress in fracture prognosis and care.

Manuscript Submission Information

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
