Atomic Spectroscopy: Status, Challenges, and Trends

The International Journal of Molecular Sciences invites submissions to the Special Issue “Atomic Spectroscopy: Status, Challenges, and Trends”, guest edited by Dr. Dragan Nikolic (Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology). Atomic and molecular spectroscopy continue to provide essential insights into structure, dynamics, and interactions across chemistry, physics, and biology. This Special Issue will highlight advances in high-resolution experimental methods, innovative instrumentation, and computational modeling that connect atomic and molecular spectroscopy to broader areas of molecular science. Topics include, but are not limited to, plasma diagnostics, light–matter interactions, and spectroscopic methods for probing atomic and molecular systems in extreme environments. Applications range from laboratory-scale studies of reaction mechanisms to spaceborne mass spectrometry of planetary atmospheres and remote-sensing astrophysical spectroscopy of interstellar media. We welcome original research articles, reviews, and perspectives that address open challenges, showcase interdisciplinary approaches, and outline future directions for spectroscopy within molecular sciences.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
