Advances in G Protein-Coupled Receptor Signaling

Dear Colleagues,

G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are the largest family of metabotropic receptors, constituting eukaryotes’ largest and most diverse group of membrane receptors. Despite distinguishing five structurally distinct subfamilies (glutamate, rhodopsin, adhesion, frizzled/taste2, and secretin) within the GPCRs superfamily, these integral membrane proteins contain invariably an extracellular amino terminus, seven transmembrane (7TM) α-helical domains, and an intracellular carboxy terminus. Among the nearly 800 GPCRs encoded in the human genome, those associated with signaling pathways influence the inflammatory response and metabolism.

The anti-inflammatory and metabolic effects of signaling through GPCRs are of understandable interest due to their potential therapeutic possibilities, including in frequently occurring metabolic diseases accompanied by inflammation, such as overweight/obesity, atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

This Special Issue is dedicated to all aspects of GPCR signaling, including physiological and pathologic conditions with direct or indirect anti-inflammatory and metabolic effects.

When considering your submission, please remember that IJMS is a journal of molecular science. However, submissions of clinical studies that include biomolecular experiments or pathological research with case sample data are welcomed.
