Molecular Pathogenesis of Depression and Therapeutic Mechanisms of Antidepressant Effects

Dear Colleagues,

Since the serendipitous discovery of drugs with antidepressant efficacy, monoamine-based antidepressants found widespread application. However, as new theories about the pathological process of depression have emerged, novel treatments with different mechanisms from those of existing antidepressants have become possible. This Special Issue, entitled “Molecular Pathogenesis of Depression and Therapeutic Mechanisms of Antidepressant Effects”, aims to organize new theories about the pathogenesis of depression and to suggest new therapeutic approaches to using these processes.

This Special Issue focuses on both basic science and translational research as well as clinical evidence to understand the complex nature and have a more complete comprehension of the pathophysiology of depression. Since IJMS is a journal of molecular science, pure clinical studies will not suitable for our journal. However, clinical or pure model submissions with biomolecular experiments are welcomed.
