Dear Colleagues,
Rapid advances in next-generation sequencing and computational bioinformatics have revolutionized animal genomics and transcriptomics, standing as a core engine driving breakthroughs in livestock breeding, wildlife evolutionary research and veterinary pathology worldwide. Timely summary of cutting-edge progress is urgently needed to break existing research bottlenecks, bridge basic molecular research with industrial breeding practice, and promote cross-disciplinary cooperation between geneticists, bioinformaticians and animal breeding specialists, highlighting the high academic and applied value of this Special Issue.
This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the most recent advances related to animal genome characterization and transcriptome profiling across diverse animal taxa. We consider contributions addressing original research, comprehensive reviews and short communications uncovering genetic regulation, evolutionary patterns and practical application potential based on genomic and transcriptomic datasets.
Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Genome-wide genetic variation analysis and germplasm resource excavation of animals;
- Transcriptomic regulatory mechanisms of animal growth, reproduction and nutrient metabolism;
- Novel bioinformatic pipelines for animal genomic and transcriptome data processing;
- Application of genomic/transcriptomic findings in molecular-assisted breeding.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Genes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
