Feature Papers in Toxicogenomics

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a call for papers for this Special Issue of the journal Genes, entitled “Feature Papers in Toxicogenomics”. This Special Issue aims to showcase high-quality, cutting-edge research and authoritative reviews that deepen our understanding of toxicological responses through the integration of genomics, multi-omics technologies, molecular biology, and advanced computational approaches.

Particular emphasis will be placed on innovative computational and systems-level strategies for analyzing, integrating, and interpreting toxicogenomic data. These include in silico prediction frameworks, quantitative structure–activity relationship (QSAR) and read-across methodologies, network and systems toxicology, and physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling. Studies that link chemical structure to gene expression and multi-omics-derived biological responses to enable mechanism-informed toxicity prediction are especially encouraged.

In addition, we welcome contributions incorporating emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, single-cell and spatial omics, exposomics, and integrative approaches that bridge experimental and computational toxicology.

This Special Issue invites original research articles, comprehensive reviews, and short communications on topics including, but not limited to, the following:

• Network and systems toxicology;
• AI-/ML-driven toxicology and predictive modeling;
• In silico screening, QSAR, and read-across approaches;
• Single-cell, spatial, and multi-omics toxicogenomics;
• High-throughput screening initiatives (e.g., ToxCast, Tox21);
• Adverse Outcome Pathways (AOPs) and mechanism-based toxicity frameworks;
• Dose–response modeling, including benchmark dose approaches;
• Bayesian modeling and uncertainty quantification;
• Cheminformatics and chemical–bioactivity integration;
• Public toxicology databases, FAIR data, and computational resources;
• Chemical prioritization and exposure–bioactivity relationships;
• Mixture toxicology and cumulative risk assessment;
• Exposomics and environmental health integration;
• Translational toxicogenomics and regulatory science applications.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process.
