Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Wood is a hierarchically organized biochemical product derived from trees, primarily composed of three macromolecules: cellulose and hemicellulose, the aromatic polymer lignin, and low-molecular-weight compounds known as extractives. A growing trend in chemical processing focuses on the isolation of individual wood components—cellulose, lignin, hemicelluloses, extractives, and fine chemicals—collectively recognized as valuable biopolymers and molecules. Additionally, the development of nanomaterials, such as nanocrystalline cellulose, nanofibrillated cellulose, and nanolignin, has opened up new possibilities for material innovation.
Due to their exceptional properties, these biopolymers and nanomaterials enhance existing materials, enable the creation of novel biopolymer-based materials, and contribute to the development of bionanocomposites. Wood fiber-based products have gained significant attention in recent years for their sustainability and eco-friendly characteristics. Derived from processed and engineered wood fibers, these materials are used in a wide range of applications, including composites, insulation materials, and paper products.
Offering a sustainable, biodegradable, and versatile alternative to conventional synthetic materials, wood fiber-based products play a crucial role in advancing green manufacturing and design. Continuous improvements in processing techniques and material formulations are expanding their applications, while future innovations—including nanotechnology integration, enhanced recycling methods, and the development of high-performance bio-composites—will further strengthen their significance.
This Special Issue will explore the development processes, key properties, and applications of wood fiber-based products, highlighting their role in sustainable material science.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Forests is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
