Artificial Intelligence for Wireless Networks

Dear Colleagues,

Wireless network infrastructure is currently undergoing widespread deployment. Opportunities for developing intelligent networking infrastructure are expected to increase in tandem with the proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). Industry and academia have begun to shift their focus to enhance the capacity of networks to serve a wide variety of mobile applications, particularly those that are enabled by artificial intelligence (AI). Edge computing is a type of distributed computing architecture that shifts the processing of applications, data, and services away from the network’s central node and onto the nodes that are closer to the network’s edge with wireless mobile nodes. It is anticipated that novel wireless network technologies will significantly expand intelligent information transmission, storage, and processing, thereby optimizing the overall performance as well as the quality of the experience provided by a variety of services and applications. Additionally, the wireless network technologies and protocols that are built should be flexible enough to meet the needs of many different considerations (for example, in terms of connectivity, latency, security, energy efficiency, and reliability).

This Special Issue’s goal is to address the use of artificial intelligence in wireless communications and other areas of technology by bringing together a collection of original research papers on the topic. All submissions need to provide an explanation of the artificial intelligence that will be utilized to manage the wireless network.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

• Artificial intelligence for the convergence of communications;
• Allocation of wireless communication resources;
• Distributed artificial intelligence and federated learning in wireless networks;
• Energy-efficient scheduling for the artificial intelligence of things (AIoT);
• Low-latency wireless communication control protocols;
• Intelligent wireless network technologies that use multidimensional radio access and backhaul technologies;
• Optimization of wireless communication, storage, and computing resources;
• Video streaming with network intelligence;
• Multimedia AIoT systems and applications.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
