Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Special Issue “Next-Generation IoT and Cloud Computing for Intelligent and Transformative Healthcare” is dedicated to advancing research at the intersection of healthcare, IoT, and cloud technologies. With the exponential growth of connected devices, wearable sensors, and intelligent systems, healthcare is undergoing a profound transformation toward data-driven, patient-centered, and technology-enabled solutions. This Special Issue aims to explore innovative architectures, frameworks, and applications that leverage IoT and cloud computing to support real-time monitoring, predictive diagnostics, precision medicine, and large-scale healthcare data management. Key areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Smart hospitals and digital twin applications;
  • Wearable sensors and smart medical devices;
  • AI and machine learning in diagnostics and prediction;
  • Collaborative telemedicine and remote healthcare platforms;
  • Edge/fog computing for real-time health services;
  • Data governance, compliance, and ethics in IoT/cloud-driven healthcare;
  • Blockchain and distributed ledger technologies for secure health data sharing;
  • Interoperability and standardization of healthcare IoT and cloud platforms;
  • Security, privacy, and trust in IoT–cloud healthcare;
  • Low- to ultra-low-latency communication and high bandwidth for real-time healthcare and AR/VR-assisted medical procedures;
  • 5G/6G-enabled connected health systems;
  • Energy-efficient and sustainable IoT–cloud healthcare systems.

By bringing together contributions from academia, industry, and practitioners, the Special Issue seeks to provide a holistic view of how next-generation IoT and cloud technologies can enable scalable, secure, and intelligent healthcare systems. Ultimately, its objective is to inspire transformative solutions that enhance clinical decision making, improve patient outcomes, and reduce healthcare costs while fostering sustainable and inclusive healthcare ecosystems.

We invite researchers, practitioners, and industry experts to contribute their latest findings and insights to this Special Issue. Your work will not only advance the academic dialogue but also inspire transformative innovations in healthcare powered by next-generation IoT and cloud computing. We also welcome readers to explore the collection, which we hope will serve as a valuable resource for shaping the future of intelligent healthcare systems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Electronics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
