Advanced Cardiothoracic and Abdominal Imaging: From CT Innovations to AI Diagnostics

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue aims to showcase the latest advancements in cardiothoracic and abdominal imaging, with a particular focus on the integration of cutting-edge CT technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) in diagnostic workflows. As imaging continues to evolve from purely anatomical assessments to functional and quantitative characterization, novel approaches such as dual-energy and spectral CT, as well as photon-counting detector CT, are reshaping the diagnostic landscape across multiple organ systems.

We welcome original research, reviews, and technical notes that highlight innovations in computed tomography for cardiovascular, pulmonary, and abdominal applications—including, but not limited to, coronary CT angiography, lung cancer screening, liver lesion characterization, and acute abdomen protocols. Special emphasis will be given to studies that integrate AI-based image reconstruction, segmentation, disease classification, and prognostic modeling. Submissions exploring the role of radiomics, machine learning, and deep learning in enhancing diagnostic accuracy and workflow efficiency are encouraged.

This Special Issue also seeks contributions that critically assess the clinical utility, validation, and translational relevance of these technologies in real-world practice. Multicenter studies, comparative effectiveness research, and interdisciplinary collaborations will be prioritized, as will methodological papers on standardization, data harmonization, and explainable AI in imaging.

By bridging state-of-the-art CT acquisition with intelligent data analysis, this Special Issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current capabilities and future directions in cardiothoracic and abdominal imaging, offering valuable insights for radiologists, clinicians, engineers, and researchers committed to precision diagnostics.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
