Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to participate in a Special Issue dedicated to advancing understanding, early diagnosis, and treatment in chronic lung diseases, including asthma, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, and respiratory infections.
This Special Issue will present cutting-edge research, clinical insights, and innovative approaches addressing the complexities of lung diseases. For this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome in the following areas:
- Pathophysiology of lung diseases;
- Advances in imaging and diagnostic techniques;
- Epidemiological studies and public health perspectives;
- The impact of environmental and occupational exposures on the development of lung diseases;
- AI and machine learning applications in respiratory medicine.
Chronic lung diseases are alarmingly common and represent a major global health burden. Among them, asthma affects more than 260 million people worldwide, representing the most common chronic disease among children. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) constitutes a leading cause of death and disability among adults, and interstitial lung diseases, including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, although less frequent, have shown increasing incidence worldwide. Despite the progress made in their diagnosis, significant challenges persist, as many chronic respiratory diseases continue to be widely underdiagnosed and inadequately managed for years before proper identification. This Special Issue will focus on presenting recent advances in cutting-edge research regarding the identification of novel biomarkers, diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis in the field of respiratory diseases.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
