Pediatric Cardiac Surgery: From Diagnostics to Management of Peri-Operative Hemostasis and Transfusion

This special issue belongs to the section “Clinical Diagnosis and Prognosis“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Maintaining hemostatic balance throughout the surgical and perioperative periods in neonatal and pediatric cardiac surgery is essential in achieving optimal outcomes. Appropriate strategies require the correct use of diagnostic tools, comprehensive blood management, and targeted interventions to address bleeding or thrombosis. The marked variability in patient physiology, maturity, and surgical complexity presents significant clinical and technical challenges.

This Special Issue will be devoted to exploring these challenges across all phases of neonatal and pediatric cardiac surgery. We aim to highlight regional and institutional variations in diagnostic and management strategies, reflecting the diverse traditions and evolving practices that shape modern pediatric cardiac care. This cross-continental exchange of experience and expertise will provide an exciting opportunity to confront complex issues, such as achieving effective hemostasis in very small infants following prolonged and complicated surgical and interventional procedures.

We welcome authors to share their experience, knowledge, and insights with our worldwide community through this Special Issue. We believe that these collective contributions will substantially advance our understanding of blood management and hemostasis in this vulnerable population. We welcome original research articles, reviews, clinical observations, device and methodology reports, and short communications that will further our knowledge of the science and clinical practice of hemostatic and transfusion management in neonatal and pediatric cardiac surgery.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
