Health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Youth

This special issue belongs to the section “Global Pediatric Health“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) care journeys are special experiences, and even more so when it comes to children and adolescents. The health of LGBT youth has been (and is still being) considerably impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. However, beyond this long period of crisis, what have been the latest developments in the care and support of LGBT youth?

The scientific community needs benchmarks on a wide variety of issues, including rejection and stigma, worsening of psychological and physical (including sexual) violence, improvement in surgical techniques, tensions (and misunderstandings) in the context of indigenous communities, "pinkwashing", identification of gay-friendly health practitioners (and banning of practitioners with harmful practices toward LGBT youth), new health issues, etc. How can and should the post-COVID society be even more inclusive with regard to LGBT youth? Why is the health of LGBT people (especially that of young people) still a medical taboo in many geopolitical contexts?

We are looking for papers that provide reasoned, precise, and scientific answers to each of these themes in order to be able to guarantee easier access to care and equal opportunities in terms of health for LGBT youth.
