Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Mental health challenges are increasingly prevalent among children and adolescents. According to recent data, approximately one in seven 10-19-year-olds globally experience a mental disorder, with depression, anxiety, and behavioral disorders being the most common (Health Resources and Services Administration, 2020). In meeting youth where they are at, technological advances hold significant promise for transforming mental health treatment. This Special Issue explores the latest advances in digital interventions for treating psychopathology in children and adolescents. It aims to highlight innovative approaches leveraging technology to address mental health challenges, including (but not limited to):

  • Anxiety;
  • Depression;
  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD);
  • Autism spectrum disorders (ASD).

The issue is intended to feature a collection of (but not limited to) the following:

  • Empirical research articles using primary and/or secondary data analysis;
  • Review articles outlining new areas for exploration;
  • Clinical trials (randomized control and/or feasibility);
  • Case studies in this unique population.

Such articles should demonstrate the efficacy and accessibility of digital tools such as mobile apps, virtual reality, teletherapy, and/or online support platforms for addressing the youth mental health crisis. Emphasis in the proposed articles should be placed on the integration of these interventions into traditional therapeutic frameworks, their impact on treatment outcomes, and/or their potential for personalized care. The contributions from this Special Issue will underscore the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and the need for ongoing research to optimize digital interventions for young populations.

I look forward to receiving your contributions!
