Skin and Hair Side Effects of Cancer Treatment

This special issue belongs to the section “Cancer Therapy“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

An essential component of cancer therapy is the successful navigation of treatment toxicity, and nowhere is this struggle more immediately visible than in the field of oncodermatology. Adverse events affecting the skin, hair, and nails are rarely fatal, but are devastating to patients’ quality of life, to the point that they are sometimes more feared than the cancer itself. The pain of these toxicities, along with the unique psychological distress that they cause, can lead to treatment disruption or discontinuation, in some cases compromising the potential of otherwise promising regimens. At the same time, prompt recognition and management of these toxicities can be profoundly empowering for patients and can maximize the quality of the life afforded by their treatment.

Ondocermatologic toxicities are as varied as the treatments that cause them, and management strategies must be tailored to the specific needs of a complex patient population. This Special Issue of Cancers seeks to explore the current frontiers in the identification, triage, and mitigation of hair, skin, and nail toxicities from cancer and its treatment.
