Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Liquid biopsy is a fascinating and exponentially growing field that has tremendous potential to significantly change the therapeutic strategy and management of cancer patients.
This Special Issue of Cancers will consist of selected papers presented at the 5th ACTC (Advances in Circulating Tumor Cells) “Liquid Biopsy in Its Best” meeting (www.actc2021.org) that took place in Kalamata, Greece, on 22–25 September 2021.
The 5th ACTC meeting was the first in-person meeting in the liquid biopsy field after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and was held in an extremely safe environment following all safety guidelines. The meeting was attended by 210 participants that travelled to Greece from 23 countries. Once again, researchers from academia, clinical oncologists and technology providers had, after such a long time, the chance to interact, establish collaborations and present their latest data in a unique, relaxing and stimulating environment. It is great that even under these difficult conditions due to the pandemic, a critical mass of world-recognized pioneer researchers and clinical oncologists, who have made major contributions in the field, participated in the 5th ACTC Meeting through state-of-the-art presentations, stimulating discussions, and sharing unpublished data. All sessions were highly attended and interactive, and all presentations stimulated intensive discussions.
State-of-the-art research on the biology of metastasis, on the molecular characterization of CTCs, ctDNA analysis, miRNAs and extracellular vesicles was presented in parallel with clinical applications of liquid biopsies and latest technological achievements in the field. The program consisted of 29 plenary lectures, 27 selected oral presentations, and 92 posters. There were also 11 high level industry-sponsored presentations on the latest advances in liquid biopsy technologies. All sessions were highly attended. The latest findings from clinical trials based on liquid biopsy approaches were thoroughly discussed. Three travel grants and three poster awards were granted to the best submitted abstracts.
This Special Issue in Cancers will publish a selection of papers presented as oral presentations or posters at the 5th ACTC meeting. This Special Issue will focus on state-of-the-art developments in liquid biopsy technologies, on the latest findings on CTCs and ctDNA analysis, and its implementation in clinical practice.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Cancers is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2900 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Benefits of Publishing in a Special Issue
- Ease of navigation: Grouping papers by topic helps scholars navigate broad scope journals more efficiently.
- Greater discoverability: Special Issues support the reach and impact of scientific research. Articles in Special Issues are more discoverable and cited more frequently.
- Expansion of research network: Special Issues facilitate connections among authors, fostering scientific collaborations.
- External promotion: Articles in Special Issues are often promoted through the journal's social media, increasing their visibility.
- e-Book format: Special Issues with more than 10 articles can be published as dedicated e-books, ensuring wide and rapid dissemination.
