Medical Physics and Non-Ionizing Radiation Dosimetry and Safety: Toward Predictive, AI-Driven and Personalized Applications
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Non-ionizing radiation (NIR) technologies—including radiofrequency, microwaves, lasers, ultrasound, and infrared—are increasingly central to medical therapies, diagnostics, industrial processes, and research applications. As these technologies proliferate, precise dosimetry, exposure quantification, and safety management become essential to maximize efficacy while minimizing biological and environmental risks. This Special Issue seeks high-impact, forward-looking contributions that advance the science, modeling, and practical implementation of NIR dosimetry and safety.
We particularly welcome research integrating computational biophysical modeling, digital twin simulations, AI-driven predictive analytics, and real-time monitoring to optimize dose delivery, device performance, and safety protocols. Experimental, in vivo, in vitro, and in silico (digital twin) studies validating exposure assessment methodologies, novel sensor technologies, and advanced therapeutic or industrial NIR applications are highly encouraged. Topics of interest include clinical and rehabilitation therapies, wearable and implantable dosimeters, regulatory and safety frameworks, environmental and occupational exposure assessment, and the development of intelligent systems for risk prediction and adaptive control.
By uniting interdisciplinary perspectives—from medical physicists and biomedical engineers to biologists, clinicians, and computational scientists—this Special Issue aims to define the next generation of NIR dosimetry and safety research. Our goal is to foster innovative, reproducible, and predictive methodologies that enable personalized, safe, and efficient use of non-ionizing radiation across healthcare, industry, and everyday life.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the Special Issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Biophysica is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1200 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
